Postbank has rolled out a new card for people who get social grants in South Africa. The Black SASSA Card is replacing the old SASSA Gold one. This change affects millions of South Africans who rely on these grants to make ends meet.

What’s New About the Black SASSA Card?

The Black Sassa Card, also called the Mzansi Debit Card, aims to make banking easier and cheaper for everyone. Here’s what you should know:

  • It’s a debit card you can use to buy things or get cash from ATMs
  • You can use it at stores, Post Offices, and ATMs all over South Africa
  • It links to a Mzansi account, which is only for South African citizens with a valid ID
  • You can set up debit orders to pay your bills automatically

Rules to Remember

The new card comes with some important limits:

  • You can’t have more than R25,000 in your account
  • You can only take out R5,000 per day
  • Each person can only have one Mzansi account

Why is Postbank Making This Change?

Postbank wants to make sure everyone can bank safely and easily. With this new card, you can:

  • Get your salary or grant money put straight into your account
  • Keep your money safe without carrying cash
  • Pay for things easily at stores

What to Bring When Getting Your Card?

When you go to get your new card, make sure to bring:

  • Proof of where you live (like a bill with your address on it)

If you’re picking up a card for someone else, you’ll also need a letter from Sassa saying it’s okay.

What If I’m Not in Gauteng?

Don’t worry! Postbank will be giving out the new cards in other parts of South Africa soon. They’re starting in Gauteng, but they’ll get to everyone.

Special Note for Bloemfontein Residents

If you live in Bloemfontein and your last name is between Aaron and Bavuma, you can get your new card on September 11th. Go to the Postbank Head Office at 120a Henry Street, Westdene.

What About My Grant Money?

Your grants will stay the same. You’ll still get the same amount of money each month. The only thing changing is the card you use.
